Able has two brothers and is a fan of Led Zeppelin.[1] She has lived in Spain and Mexico,[2] and she is particularly fond of the Spanish language.[2]
Able married her Monsters co-star Scoot McNairy in June 2010.[3]
She ranked #83 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2008 list.
Prior to her breakout role in the 2006 teen horror and Sundance cult classic All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, Whitney had been involved in a pair of low-budget films: Age of Kali (2005) and Dead Lenny (2006). While the former film was considered a surprising success in the eyes of many critics, the latter (Dead Lenny) was considered a woeful disappointment despite having some well-known actors in the cast. Shortly after the disappointment of Dead Lenny, Able tried her hand at television. She received the role of Meredith in the pilot episode of Secrets of a Small Town and also worked on the television series Rodney.
Able then acted in All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, in which she played one of the lead characters, the bitchy but also sympathetic cheerleader Chloe. Her performance was well received by many critics and audiences alike. She then appeared in several successful television series including CSI: New York, Cold Case, Nikita, and Criminal Minds.
Able's next film role came in Emmanuelle Vaugier's horror vehicle Unearthed in which she played a bit role, Ally; the film was criticized overall for a poor script featuring a stale plot loaded with cliches. She appeared in several low budget features before landing a major role in the independent 2010 film Monsters, a low budget sci-fi horror film in which she played the lead female character. The film received critical praise for its human relationship set against a suspenseful backdrop of science fiction.
She has currently finished shooting for Annabel (a short film), Free Samples (as Dana), and The Man Without a Head (a small role).
